Evaluation of the data:

Mandatory Limit (in µg/l)

(EU drinking water limit: 0.1 µg/l or ecological quality standards ?)

We have some national limits – e.g. for swimming water it is limit 0,5 µg/l, for DW it is 0,1 µg/l one pesticides (0,5 µg/l for SUM), DDT for ground water  0,025 µg/l; for surface water there are only several individual limits no general limit for all pesticides.

Pesticides found most often

Atrazin (8x)

Pesticide concentrations (quantitative data)

No data

Additional information:

Sampling by national authorities

(analytical methods, regulation etc.)

Slovak  Hydrometeorological Institute, Bratislava

Specific monitoring programmes

Different monitoring programmes and institutions for ground/surface water, for drinking and feed water and for waste water

Regarding data evaluation:

Is there additional information on the water monitoring and water quality evaluation, limit setting etc in your country?

(in English?)

Data concerning results of monitoring need to be requested, it is not free accessible

COMMENTS / NOTES:

There are 4 different organisations dealing with pesticides in water (not optimal flexibility), which have different software for data processing. Communication among them is not optimal.

One, major monitoring system (SHMU) of ground water has been focused in 2005 on following pesticides residues -

Ground water :

DDT, Heptachlór, Lindan, Metoxychlór, Atrazín, Simazín in most intensive agricultural area; resp. DDT, Heptachlór, Hexachlórbenzén, Lindan, Metoxychlór, Delor 106, Delor 103

 in rest of Slovakia.

Surface water (mostly analysed pesticides residues):

Border 02: Aldrin,  Dieldrin, Isodrin,  Endrin, Metoxychlór, Heptachlór, Terbutylazín, gama-HCH lindan, Hexachlórcyklohexán , DDT (izoméry DDD, DDT, DDE), atrazín (2-chlór-4-etylamíno-6-izopropylamíno-1,3,5-triazín), Acetochlór, gama-HCH lindan[Smo3]

Comment by SS: “Most of the pesticides are old, obsolete pesticides or banned already.

I assume that the monitoring mainly focus on these old substances.

To evaluate the current data it is very important to know the pesticides which where analysed in 2004.

If the monitoring does not take into account pesticides which are currently used in agriculture today – of course- they won´t found anything.”

DL: You are right, this is one of our critical point on water monitoring system in Slovakia, but a lot limit finances, which are available for the water monitoring.

River Hron: 2-chlór-N-(2,6-dietylfenyl)-N-metoxymetylacetamid (Alachlór), Acetochlór, prometryn, terbutryn, metamitron, 2,4 D, atrazín (2-chlór-4-etylamíno-6-izopropylamíno-1,3,5-triazín), simazín (6-chór-N,N-dietyl-1,3,5-triazín-2,4-diamín), izoproturon (N,N-dimetyl-N-(4-izopropylfenyl)-močovina, glyfosát, pendimethalin

River Ipel: 2-chlór-N-(2,6-dietylfenyl)-N-metoxymetylacetamid (Alachlór), Acetochlór, prometryn, terbutryn, metamitron, 2,4 D, atrazín (2-chlór-4-etylamíno-6-izopropylamíno-1,3,5-triazín), simazín (6-chór-N,N-dietyl-1,3,5-triazín-2,4-diamín), izoproturon (N,N-dimetyl-N-(4-izopropylfenyl)-močovina, glyfosát, 2-metyl-4-chlórfenoxyoctová kyselina (MCPA)

River Slana: 2-chlór-N-(2,6-dietylfenyl)-N-metoxymetylacetamid (Alachlór), Acetochlór, prometryn, terbutryn, metamitron, 2,4 D, atrazín (2-chlór-4-etylamíno-6-izopropylamíno-1,3,5-triazín), simazín (6-chór-N,N-dietyl-1,3,5-triazín-2,4-diamín), glyfosát, 2-metyl-4-chlórfenoxyoctová kyselina (MCPA) ,pendimethalin

Data/values from 2005 are not completed until now.

 [Smo1] sites or samples?

(I guess no. Of samples) Very important because comparable is the number of measuring site – any data?

What does it mean :”not all” regarding surface water?

[Smo2]Very important information because of the list of mostly founded pesticides below (see my comment below)

[Smo3]Most of the pesticides are old, obsolete pesticides. I assume that the monitoring mainly focus on these old substances. To evaluate the current data it is very important to know the pesticides which where analysed in 2004.

If the monitoring does not take into account pesticides which are used in agriculture today – of course- they won´t found anything.
